Gun on Credit...Yay or Nay?
Gun on Credit...Yay or Nay?
here's where im at....have no firearm at the moment. i was planning on picking one up with my tax return which is maybe a month away. i don't feel as if i want to wait a month. i feel the economy is in shambles and could completely fall off the cliff at any moment. also coupled with that the area i live in has suddenly had a rash of home invasions and other related violence. im not really concerned about pickin up the debt for a month cuz i know ill be able to pay it off in the next few weeks. the thing im worried about is possibly having an additional paper trail that i own a firearm. obviusly there's a paper trail already but i was just feelin a lil nervous. should i sell some pm's for a firearm...try to wait it out or pick one up tomorrow on credit? |

Re: Gun on Credit...Yay or Nay?
I say nay. but that is just me, I may be ignorant.
http://www.guncite.com/gun_control_registration.html I think only the gun dealer keeps these forms. The only record is a background check. They will do a trace on a specific serial number because they are investigating a crime in which they already have the gun. Firearms Tracing with Registration Scheme #1 " These forms and records are used by law enforcement agencies to trace firearms associated with crime. To initiate a firearm trace, the police must note the serial number of the gun, then forward a firearm trace request (Form 3312.1) with other pertinent information to the ATF. The ATF then contacts the manufacturer who identifies the wholesaler that bought the firearm. The wholesaler then refers the ATF to the retail dealer who, using the bound-book, identifies the original retail purchaser. The ATF considers a trace successful if the original purchaser is identified. Normally at this point, the ATF turns the case over to local law enforcement, however in rare cases the ATF attempts to follow the chain of possession. To trace a gun beyond the first retail purchaser, law enforcement authorities must conduct interviews and use informants, and of course these methods are often unsuccessful. " |
Re: Gun on Credit...Yay or Nay?
Since you don't have a firearm and you can pay it off soon, go ahead and get it. As others have said, the credit card paper trail isn't the one you need to worry about. You may want to start thinking about saving up to buy a gun in a private transaction, one that doesn't involved a 4473. (Does anyone else immediately think of that scene in Red Dawn everytime you hear 4473?)

Re: Gun on Credit...Yay or Nay?
I vote yes. I just bought a Glock 30 earlier this month to have a 2nd handgun (with my Glock 21). Purchased on a CC and paid off already. If I did not own a gun I would get one as fast as I could, plus ammunition, and extra magazines.
Maddie - In my state, all transactions have to go through a dealer now, with a waiting period and background check by the state police. Selling a handgun/assault rifle privately I think is a felony and has been illegal since the mid-90's here. Also can only buy 1 handgun/assault rifle per-month. Going to buy 1 more next month, and also pay for one for my step-father as a birthday gift. |
Re: Gun on Credit...Yay or Nay?
at the moment its a sw 642 .38 special.......i was initially going to go glock either a 17 or a 19 but i think someone on here said "the guy ya shoot could careless if it's a glock or how much it costs". so i seen some good reviews on the sw .38 and i can get into one of those alot cheaper then the glock (down the road i WILL have a glock though. the sw seems to be easy to use as a ccw as well.....im open to suggestions though.

This highlights the urgency for those in states that have not yet adopted such laws to make some private purchases now, before it's too late! And it highlights the urgency for those who already live in such states to rent a moving van... |

Re: Gun on Credit...Yay or Nay?
You could buy a gun through Bud's. It will be cheaper than you can find locally. Shipping is included in the price. You will have to find a local dealer who will do a transfer for you. Should be $20. You call Bud's and order. You pay them so no sales tax! They ship to your transfer dealer. You go there, pay your $20 and fill out your 4473, and you are gone.
That is the process for any out of state gun transfer. I mention Bud's specifically because they are still doing their "buy a gun and make no payments or interest for one year" promotion. Considering the "real rate of inflation," it seems like a good deal to me. Strong caveat: like any of these no payment, no interest deals.... be SURE you pay it all off before the year is over. Otherwise they will hit you for all that back interest. Bud's does charge you an additional 5% fee for the service but the no sales tax wipes that out, no problem! The S&W promotion is running through the end of the month. Buy an M&P and get a $50 mail in rebate and two free magazines. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/48722 http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/52330 Gregg |
